A weekend in the countryside...

Sorry I haven't posted for a while it's been a hectic week for me at work, and at home! I was at my girlfriends parents this weekend in a little village called Milton. Her brother was home for the weekend from basic training for the army so we went down to spend some time with him and the rest of the family. I took my camera (as always!), as we were going for a walk around the village on the Sunday. With it being in open country side I hoped to try and get some wildlife photos for the British Wildlife Photography Awards (who knows, I might accidentally get an amazing photo!).

This didn't turn out quite as planned... Although there was some wildlife around, there wasn't all that much. I got a couple of pictures but for some reason the shots were pretty awful. I was using my Tamron 70-300mm lens with a 2.0x AF-S teleconverter. The chromatic aberrations were terrible and I just couldn't seem to get in to the 'zone'. It was the first time I'd used this lens combined with the converter for this type of photography, and I won't be doing it again unless it is very sunny! In the end I only took about 10 pictures, and deleted six of them. I'm not happy with any of them so they shall not be posted on here! I really love the ability to get up close to a subject, it allows you to capture such natural behaviour. It's just heartbreaking that a decent telephoto lens can cost in excess of £5,000!

Whilst on the walk we stumbled across an eerie abandoned water mill, I can't wait to get back there with my tripod and wide angle lens and get some moody black and white photos!

One night whilst on the way back from the village pub, there was a great looking moon out in the sky. I believe it was a 'waxing crescent'?? With such little light pollution there were loads of stars too, something I don't often get to see in the town that I live. I was very tempted to grab the tripod and take some photos, but disheartened by the experience earlier I decided to call it a night.
