About 6 months ago I joined 500px, having already started using Flickr I left my account dormant and didn't see the need to use both sites. I had an email last night informing me that there was an android app available for 500px, being curious, I decided to download it and have a poke around.
What struck me immediately when opening the app was the sheer 'awesomeness' of the featured photos, somehow I'd failed to notice this before?! Quite intimidating in a way, as I don't pretend to be anywhere near professional level, I just enjoy it! I'm not even comfortable calling my self a photographer!
Flicking through the photos I noticed the amount of feedback people were getting, was it just because their work was featured? I've been on Flickr for 18 months, and have had only one person favourite one of my photos... I decided to upload a couple of my favourite photos to 500px and see what happened.
On the drive to work, I noticed that I was getting quite a lot of emails through. Not necessarily unusual, however, when I pulled over and checked my phone they were all from 500px informing me of comments and likes! I was really very surprised.
Needless to say I will now be running both 500px and Flickr simultaneously, at least until my Flickr Pro runs out! I think with 500px's cool UI, and excellent exposure it's going to take over from Flickr very quickly.
